Welcome… to the Future!!!
August 21, 2006So this is the new home of 140.85. If I update it as much as I think/hope I will, it will get a better URL. But for now, this is the new home. Why the move? Well, I like the feature on Deadspin and a few other blogs where you can click a category name and find posts separated by category. And since I’m gonna be covering a whole range of topics, from sports to videogames to upcoming projects I hope to complete (or start, to be more specific) within the next few years, it’ll be helpful for my millions upon millions of fans to sift through the crap they aren’t interested in and find what they want. A few notes to start off.
- I’m going to port over my posts from the old journal and retrodate them. So, in some bizarre way, this will not be the first post. Not every post from the old site, just the ones of significance (essentially, just about everything covered in my New Years Post… but yeah, we’ll work on that later).
- If you’ve somehow seen the site summary somewhere or read the About page, you might be seeing shit like Duke Davis, Bad Street Brawlers, Son of Sanshiro Ltd, and SpaceGang FutureMasters 2000, and whether you’re new to the site or a somewhat longtime viewer of the old site, here’s some background… since a lot of this shit has just been stewing in my head for a while.
- Duke Davis is my new name. My real name is a magical secret, although not very hard to find out if you look hard enough (or… if you’ve recieved an e-mail from me, I suppose). One day, when I’m rich and famous, Duke Davis will be how the majority of fans recognize me. Like Gene Simmons or Mark Twain or the Rock. Because, you know, I’m gonna be that famous some day. Absolutely.
- The Bad Street Brawlers are my fantasy baseball team, as well as a title I’ll apply to a few other things… of which now I’m not sure of. But yeah, it’s gotten to the point where I care about my fantasy team more than the Red Sox.
- Son of Sanshiro Ltd is my production company, so to speak. I have a few things on my plate (or, more accurately, in the kitchen or in the stockroom or still in the supermarket) that I’m working on. The more imminent of which will be explained below, the other being a webshow with an expensive camera and all that jazz. A Mega64 ripoff, if you will, although I’ll certainly try my best to make it somewhat original. “Try” being the key word. But that likely won’t get too far until a couple of years. I need a camera, first and foremost. And I’ve got my sights set on a hyper-expensive HD camera from Panasonic that retails for about $2,500. So yeah, it’ll be a while until I get that in my hands. I was working on scripts, but the project below has taken the majority of my time since then and likely will take almost all of that time until its completion.
- The aforementioned other projects is what I am currently calling SpaceGang FutureMasters 2000. It’s going to be a LucasArts-style adventure game made with a nifty little program that makes creating such programs relatively simple, or rather, simpler than starting from scratch. I’ve gotten off to a good start in making an outline of the plot, and I’m pretty happy with what I’ve come up with so far. It’s gonna be a magical amalgam of Jet Set Radio Future, the Warriors, Futurama, The Cat Returns, V for Vendetta, Grim Fandango, and whatever else creeps in my mind. In other words, a work that at heart is completely unoriginal, but when mixed with other borrowed sources will hopefully wind up something all it’s own. Maybe. Anyway, I’m not gonna be able to do it alone, and I’m sure as hell not expecting to crank it out in a month or anything. This is gonna be my Waterloo, if Waterloo was where Napoleon became successful and well known, except it wasn’t, so I’m hoping it’ll be my… Clerks, I guess. How’s that? But yeah, more on this as it develops.
- So yeah, that’s all that. I was gonna lead all this off with a Celtics column, but I think I’ll start with a Sox column soon. And no, I can’t guarantee that, but like Phillip Asshole, I’ll do my best.
