Non-Work Related Personal Update

July 22, 2005
  • I’m considering buying a DS. IGN has only liked a few games (out of the 8 or so released), but one of them they liked was Yoshi’s Touch and Go, which is probably the #1 reason I’m buying the thing. It’s disappointing that it doesn’t work with the Cube for some Crystal Chronic, but whatever. I’ll probably buy it Monday… we’ll see. I’ve been spending way too much money.
  • Mr. T was just on Cold Pizza. Cold Pizza sucks, and Mr. T is awesome. The interview, despite Cold Pizza’s best efforts to contain Mr. T, was incredible. He promoted Hane’s Double Tough (“Not single-tough, not one and a half-tough”) Socks, he’s throwing out the first pitch to Carlton Fisk, he talked about Muhammad Ali, and explained why he’s “The Man with the Gold”, not “Godfather of Bling”, as the Cold Pizza lady incorrectly named him.
  • Lots of trade rumors out there. In beisbol, Mueller, Millar, and Arroyo are all being dangled, and if the end result is J.C. Romero and Josh Beckett, I’ll make that trade. If Lowell is also coming, I’ll take that too if only because the Boy Wonder gets to play third in Miami. In baloncesto, Pierce and Antoine are centerpieces of the rumors. I have no problem trading Pierce, just as long as we get equal or better value for him. Since that likely won’t happen, I’d prefer keeping him. As for Toine, Shareef set the market level for PFs, so he might be able to be re-signed for easy money, and maybe we can brainwash him into playing like the guy he was the first six games he was back and not the soft chucker he reverted to shortly afterwards.
  • I’ve come to the realization that Futurama may be the best-written show I’ve ever seen.
  • The Bruins have slightly more than a 2% chance of getting the number one pick. I’ll take those odds, especially since no other team has more than an 8% chance. Even if we miss out, I’m still happy that we only have about $1.7 million dedicated in salary at the moment.
  • I just found out a couple weeks ago that Michael Holley is one of the coolest dudes on the planet. Listening to him on the midday show on WEEI has been most delightful, and I just finished Patriot Reign, which only reinforced my belief that Bill Belichick is fucking awesome.
  • I bought a blank black baseball jersey. With my mommie’s help, I’m going to try to make a Brawlers jersey. Someday. Likely not soon. Probably never. But I had enough motivation to drop $15 on a blank black jersey, so it’s 50% done in that regard.
  • And finally, prompted by Dom’s urging to provide competition to notquitewrong.com, I’ve decided to make a webcomic. It’ll only be updated as I see fit, and it’s likely not going to be something you can tell you’re friends about, since it’ll probably only be funny to me, and even then, not that funny. But while I’m home, I have a scanner that I might as well make use of. I have no idea when the first one will come up… maybe tomorrow, maybe next week, or maybe the idea will die in it’s infancy, like my Brawlers jersey. Stay tuned.

(Play)House Party 4 Starring Kid & Play

July 16, 2005

So I’ve been at the Cape Playhouse now for about four weeks. The job is alright. I do concessions every night and deal with a lot of old people. I’m sometimes around people of moderate star power. Now, the biggest name coming, besides Jerry Stiller (who was there for one afternoon), is probably Fred Willard. The only other two people of significance are Michael McDonald and Stephnie Weir from MadTV. I shouldn’t say I’m “around” them. I don’t do anything behind the stage except throw out trash at the dumpster behind the building, but the actors and actresses sometimes walk the premises a few hours before the show.
Every Thursday, the stage managers and crew play volleyball. Now, I love volleyball. I’m very competitive, and I likes to spikes. Unfortunately, I haven’t been invited to play yet, but when my elbow heals, I’m forcing myself in. Anyway, sometimes the actors take part in the game. I guess the best word to describe it would be “surreal”. I’m not a big fan of MadTV, but I do respek the actors. I think Will Sasso, Aries Spears, Alex Borstein, McDonald and Weir are all very talented. They can carry a skit when the script sucks. But it’s surreal to see someone I just saw on TV that morning playing volleyball about 20 feet away from me. You sometimes forget these are real people.
Even stranger, I was almost crying in my car this afternoon because my elbow was in so much pain and I needed Tylenol immediately. So I stop at Tedeschi’s to grab some and a jug of Gatorade. And guess who’s there. McDonald and Weir. Standing in line at a Tedeschi’s. Part of me almost felt bad for them, and yet, I was also happy for them. No one was bothering them for an autograph, they weren’t being pursued by cameras, and I was probably the only person in the store who recognized them. There are millions of people in the country who know who they are, but there are almost billions more who don’t. They aren’t celebrities so much as actors with a somewhat recognizeable gig. I didn’t bother them. I smiled, avoided staring at them, even when McDonald used the in-store ATM that was connected to more money than I’d ever have in my life (maybe… I hear some actors are broke until their next role). Very strange.
